What is proxy server? How proxy server work's? Use of proxy server. Types of proxy server.

Is any website in your school, college or office blocked?  If yes, then you can open it very easily through proxy.

Although we do not suggest you to do this, but today we will definitely tell you what is a proxy server?  What does it work for?  How many types are there?

Also, we will also tell you what advantages and disadvantages you can get from its use.

 What is a proxy server?

You must have heard the name of proxy voting in which if a person is not present at the time of election, then he can cast his vote by another member of his family.

We can do the same for visiting a website on the Internet.

We can see the website on our computer system, but the system connecting to the website's server is something else called a proxy server.

We can access a website directly from our computer and not through a proxy server.  Here the proxy server acts as a medium or representative between the user and the website server.

When you send a request, it accesses the website via proxy server and any type of response or content from the website via proxy server reaches your computer.

Now the question is coming in your mind that if this is the work of proxy then why do we use it?  Why don't we access the website directly from our computer?

Actually, this is not only the work of proxy, in addition it provides many more features related to security and network performance, which you will read below.

How does a proxy server work?

As you know, all the computers connected to the internet have their own unique IP address which shows the identity of those computers and it is through this IP address that the Internet knows which computer is in which location so that the correct data  Can be accessed to the right computer.

A proxy server is also a type of computer and also has a unique IP address.  When you need a resource (such as a website or file), your computer first sends a request (http, https, ftp) to the proxy server.

As soon as the proxy server receives the request, it sends the same request to you at the destination server where the resource (website or file) store resides.

There is no direct communication between your computer and the server, so the server does not know your IP address, this hides the identity of your system.

What is the use of proxy server?

Proxy is mostly used to hide your IP address for security reason besides it is also used to access a blocked website.  Let us now know in detail what is the function of proxy server and why it is used:

1.To increase internet speed: Network performance can be increased by installing a good proxy server in an organization.  The proxy server stores a website or file in its cache memory, so that whenever you want to see that website, it can reach you directly from the local storage of the proxy server, that is, there will be no need to send the request to the website's server,  This will save time and bandwidth.

2.To hide IP address: If you access a website directly from your computer, your IP address reaches the server where that website is hosted, from which you can get some other personal information about you besides your location.  Can go.  But you can hide your IP and other identiy with the help of procy.

3.For monitoring: You can monitor internet usage by your employee by installing a proxy server in your office, besides parents can find it by putting it in their house.  You can see which website their children visit. To access the blocked website: You must have seen that your school, college, or office computer has some restrictions.  Because of which you are not able to see some things on the internet, apart from geographic location or country, many websites are banned by the company or government. Bypassing all these security restrictions and filters, a proxy can be used.

4.To increase the security of the system: There is always a danger of any organization getting its server hacked and data loss.  In this case, the proxy provides some benefit to a large extent.  You can configure your proxy server and encrypt the communication happening with the client and server so that no third party can read it.  You can also block malicious websites.  Proxy server adds an extra security layer between your server and outside traffic.  Hackers can access your proxy server, but they have to face difficulty in accessing your actual server where all the data store is.  Although installing proxy server and changing the IP will save your system completely from being hacked, it is not possible but with proxy you can increase security to some extent.

What are the types of proxy servers?

1.Forward Proxy: This forwards the client's request to the target server so that there can be communication between the two.  Here the client proxy sever specifies which resource it needs and the proxy gets this request to the target server where that resource is available.

2.Open Proxy: Open proxy is also a type of forwarding proxy which is publicly available so that any internet user can hide his ip and do anonymous browsing.  Below are some types of open proxy:

     a. Anonymous Proxy: It simply hides the client's IP so that the target server does not know about the client's origin.  But this gives the target server the identiy of the proxy.

b.Distorting Proxy: It tells the website its identity but passes a false IP address to the client.

c.High Anonymity Proxy: This type of proxy is very difficult to track because it neither gives its identity to the website nor passes the client's IP and keeps changing the IP repeatedly.  An example of this is the safest way to hide your identity on the Internet. Tverse network.

3.Reverse Proxy: It is the reverse of all the above proxies. Here the client does not know that he is communicating with the proxy.  That it is directly contecting with the actual server while all requests and responses pass through the proxy.  It is used by big companies such as Google etc. to improve the security of their servers, reduce load, and increase speed.

What is the risk from proxy server?

By using a proxy, you can move around the Internet by hiding your identity and take many advantages.

But keep in mind that the proxy server you are using may have all your information, so using it you may also face many types of threats.

Whether your connection is secure or not depends on how your proxy server is configured and who is monitoring it.

We have tried to explain below what harm you can do with its use:

Risk of data theft: If you are giving your data to a website, then this data will pass through the proxy server between your device and the server of the website, this data may also contain your sensitive information such as user name and password.  In such a situation, if you choose a wrong proxy, then you can understand how much damage you can do. The risk of Spam and virus attack: It can also happen that when you connect to the proxy server, many ads are shown on your screen.  Give several times these proxy servers can also try to install spam and viraus programs in your system.

Identity Theft: You can visit any website on the Internet by hiding your identity. In other words, you are using another's IP address instead of your system's IP.  But that proxy is aware of your IP and other identity.  Just as you are using another's IP, if you use your identity for any illegal activity on the Internet, it can cause you a lot of trouble.

 How to use proxy server?

Let us now know what to do if you have to connect your system to a proxy server.

For anonymous browing you can use proxy server in two easy ways given below:

 1. Using a web based proxy:
Website

This is the easiest way, in this you have to use a proxy website.

For this, first search Google by writing "Best free online proxy", you will find many websites that provide proxy facility for free.

This is a very easy way to use a proxy website, where all you have to do is enter the address of the website you want to visit in a textbox.

 2. Using the web browser:

In this method, you use your browser, but to connect to any proxy server here, you must first know its IP address and port number, for this you can search in Google.

After getting the IP and port, go to your browser setting and configure the proxy setting as given below.

a.How to use proxy in Google Chrome?

Chrome browser

First you go to the settings, click "Advanced", scroll down and go to the "System" section, click on "Open proxy settings", press the button of "LAN Settings" and press the checkbox of "Use a proxy server for your LAN".  Enable IP address of the proxy in the address and enter the port number in the box with Port Save and Apply Now you can do anonymous browsing in Google Chrome.

b.How to use proxy in Firefox?

Firefox browser

Go to Options (Windows) or Preference (Mac), click "Advanced", go to "Network" tab, go to "Connection" section, click "Settings", select "Manual Proxy Configuration" Now select the address and port number of the proxy  enter Enable "Use this proxy server for all server protocols" Save the setting
